Crossing

Crossing

Drama

Crossing tells a gripping story of survival and breakthroughs. After the bloody Xiang River battle during the Long March in 1934, The Central Red Army found themselves in a desperate situation. At the Zunyi Conference, Mao Zedong was put back in charge of military command. Facing Chiang Kai-shek’s massive force of 400,000 troops and "a tight iron encirclement," Mao dropped unrealistic tactics. Instead, he led the Red Army to move along the borders of Sichuan and Guizhou, and successfully escaped the heavy enemy encirclement through the four river crossings at Chishui, marking a crucial turning point in the Long March.

Parallel to this grand strategic chess match is the deeply human story of two individuals: Zhao Defa, an old soldier, and A Jin, a homeless orphan. While Zhao fights to keep his sacred vow alive amidst the relentless bloodshed, A Jin—who initially enlisted just to survive—evolves from a desperate runaway into a resilient soldier, discovering the true meaning of the Red Army. As the strategic brilliance of the leadership meets the unwavering devotion of the soldiers, Crossing illustrates that the Chishui campaign was not merely a tactical miracle, but a profound triumph of the human spirit.
