Qiushui and Biyun fell in love when he came to her house to teach her little brother English. When Qiushui had to flee Taiwan, Biyun gave him an engagement ring and tore off a button from his jacket. That was the last she ever saw of him. The hope that someday he’ll return lasted her through the decades, into the millennium when Biyun’s adopted daughter found the place where Qiushui was buried, at the foot of the snow-capped mountains in Tibet.
